NEWBORN CHIROPRACTIC CARE

Gentle care from day one

It is natural for parents to be cautious about chiropractic care for newborns. Most people assume adjustments involve pressure, cracking, or forceful manipulation. For infants, none of that is true. Newborn chiropractic care uses fingertip pressure — only as much as you would use to test the ripeness of a tomato. Most babies sleep through their adjustment.

The birth process, even when uncomplicated, places significant stress on a newborn’s spine and nervous system. Gentle chiropractic evaluation and treatment in the first weeks of life can address issues that arise from that stress before they become patterns.

Torticollis

Neck stiffness or tilt — often called a crick in the neck — that interferes with head turning and latching.

Latching & Breastfeeding

Feeding difficulties related to neck and jaw tension that makes achieving a comfortable latch difficult.

Colic & Fussiness

Excessive crying and discomfort that may be related to nervous system stress from the birth process.

Ear Infections

Recurrent ear infections in infants may be supported by chiropractic care alongside medical treatment.

Acid Reflux

Colic and reflux symptoms that may have a structural component related to spinal nerve function.

Birth Stress

General evaluation and nervous system support after delivery — especially after long labors or assisted births

WHAT PARENTS ASK

Chiropractic care that is gentle by design

The most common concern parents bring to the first visit is whether chiropractic care is safe for their child. The answer depends entirely on the techniques used and the provider’s experience with pediatric patients. At Zock Family Chiropractic, pediatric techniques are specifically chosen for developing bodies.

Chiropractic care for children is not a replacement for pediatric medical care. Dr. Zock works alongside your child’s pediatrician and will refer out when a condition requires medical evaluation or treatment.

  • Newborn adjustments use fingertip pressure only — no cracking or manipulation
  • Techniques are always selected based on the child’s age, size, and condition
  • Most children find adjustments relaxing — many fall asleep during treatment
  • Parents are present for all pediatric appointments
  • Dr. Zock has been treating children of all ages since 2012

CHILDREN & TWEENS

Growing bodies need different care

Children are not small adults. Their spines are still developing, their activity levels are high, and the demands placed on their bodies — from sports, growth spurts, and screen time — create different injury and alignment patterns than those seen in adult patients.

For school-age children

Children as young as two are using smartphones, tablets, and e-readers for extended periods. The posture required — head down, neck flexed forward — creates cumulative stress on the cervical spine that compounds over years. Chiropractic care addresses the structural effects of this posture before they become permanent patterns. Backpack weight, playground injuries, and sports participation add additional load on developing spines.

Text neck and posture

Text neck is the term for neck pain and postural damage caused by looking down at screens for extended periods. Excessive tension builds in the deep neck muscles, causing both acute and chronic neck pain. Chronic headaches have also been linked to this condition. Chiropractic care reduces the tension, corrects the alignment, and — when combined with posture guidance — helps prevent recurrence.

Sports and activity injuries

Young athletes are particularly prone to overuse injuries and growth-related conditions. Dr. Zock and Dr. Lauren are familiar with the injury patterns common in youth sports and treat children with age-appropriate techniques. Parents are always included in the conversation about care.

WHAT WE ADDRESS

Conditions in children & tweens

Text neck & postural strain

Cervical misalignment and muscle tension from prolonged screen use — increasingly common from age six upward.

Headaches

Tension headaches in children often have a cervical and postural component that responds well to chiropractic care.

Sports & playground injuries

Sprains, strains, and acute trauma from youth athletics and everyday childhood activity.

Backpack strain

Cumulative spinal stress from heavy backpacks carried daily — a common and underrecognized contributor to back pain in children.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions from parents

What parents ask most often before bringing their child in for the first time.

Yes. Chiropractic care for newborns uses very gentle, fingertip pressure — nothing like the adjustments used for adults. There is no cracking or forceful manipulation. Dr. Zock uses specialized techniques designed for infants, applying only the amount of pressure you would use to test the ripeness of a tomato. Most babies sleep through their adjustment.

Newborn chiropractic care at Zock Family Chiropractic is used to address torticollis, latching and breastfeeding difficulties, colic and excessive crying, ear infections, and general fussiness related to birth stress on the spine. Dr. Zock evaluates each infant individually and only recommends care when it is clinically appropriate.

Children can receive chiropractic care from birth. Zock Family Chiropractic treats newborns, infants, toddlers, school-age children, and tweens. Techniques are always age-appropriate — what is used for a newborn is completely different from what is used for a ten-year-old. Dr. Zock has been treating children of all ages since opening the practice in 2012.

No referral is needed. You can contact Zock Family Chiropractic directly to schedule an appointment for your child. Most pediatricians support chiropractic care for children or at least recognize the minimal risks involved. If you have concerns, bring them to the first visit — Dr. Zock is happy to walk you through what treatment involves before starting.

Text neck is the term for neck pain and postural damage caused by looking down at phones, tablets, and screens for extended periods. It is increasingly common in school-age children and tweens. Chiropractic care addresses the spinal misalignment and muscle tension that accumulates from this posture, reducing pain and helping correct the structural patterns before they become permanent.
